BPA and Samsung SDS Conclude Contract to Operate the Rotterdam Logistics Center in the Netherlands

Busan Port Authority (BPA, CEO NAM Ki-chan) stated that it concluded the operation contract with Samsung SDS on Feb. 18 to operate the Rotterdam Logistics Center in the Netherlands.

For the ceremony for this contract, CEO of Samsung SDS HONG Won-pyo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Joanne Doorneward, and officials of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries attended.

BPA selected Samsung SDS as a preferred bidder in December last year through an open bidding and negotiated with the company regarding detailed operational period and scope for the last two months.

Samsung SDS will operate the logistics center for 10 years from the starting date and provide comprehensive logistics services to domestic small and medium-sized shippers that are using the center.

Moreover, Samsung SDS is expected to use its own comprehensive logistic platform called Cello and apply AI and big data analysis techniques based on its experiences of running a local logistics center there, with an aim of establishing best practices in running an intelligent IT-based logistics center.

BPA will start the construction of the logistics center from September and complete it and start the operation by June 2021.

BPA CEO NAM Ki-chan stated, “We will work with Samsung SDS, a global IT solution and logistics service company, in successfully operating the logistics center at Rotterdam Port, which is a gateway to Europe. This will provide secure logistics platform for domestic companies trying to enter into the European market and contribute to the shared growth for both large and small companies.”

Mr. Hong Won-pyo, CEO of Samsung SDS, stated, “By applying AI and big data, which are core technologies of digital transformation, we will actively support Busan Port Authority in entering into overseas markets and contribute to the shared growth of the logistic industry.”
